I used to go to a really nice club that played this cool music that they called “acid jazz”. I loved it. It might even be considered “world music”. I am trying to find out the names of some artists who play this kind of music, preferably something I can download from Limewire. I like laid back but with “light energy”, kind of jazz music. Something upbeat but laid back at the same time. I call it “vacation music” b/c when I listen to it, it is very relaxing.

Why don’t you try typing “acid jazz” or “energetic ambient” into the search bar over at Youtube?

I don’t know if the stuff that comes up is what you’re talking about, but it sounds ok.

i used to be pretty obsessed with acid jazz, in particular the record mark of the same name.

one of my favourite bands was a group called Mother Earth, whose lead singer Matt Deighton has gone onto a successful folk career. they might be hard to track down though.

Galliano are well worth a look, in particular their Joyful Noise Unto The Creator album – or just check out the song Prince of Peace for a taste.

The Groundbreaking New Heavies are fantastic too, i digged their Brother Sister album. or just check out the songs Midnight At the Oasis or Dream on Dreamer.

Incognito, JTQ & Us3 are excellent too. there’s a pretty excellent wikipedia page on the subject:

Hope that helps, and more importantly hope you delight in the music! :-)

Here is a list of Acid Jazz and eccentric world music you would delight in:

African Headcharge
Blacknuss Allstars
Dread Flimstone and Michael Prophet
Emperors New Clothes
Goldbug
Gregory Isaacs
Mariela Johnson
Mister Exe
Mother Earth
Nu Perspective
Raw Stylus
Rose Windross
Skunkhour
Snowboy
吉田兄弟

I personally like Weather Report during the years Jaco Pastorius was playing bass for them. But some may argue that it’s not technically Acid Jazz. It’s still worth hearing since Jaco is still considered one of the most influential and genre altering bass players of our time.

Hope this helps

Try Idris Muhammad, Herbie Hancock, Ronny Jordan, The New Mastersounds.

This is a excellent start, youtube ‘em, wiki ‘em, and look for similar artists to the ones you like.

Sure i have a thing for you
