I’m producing a play and want to use black lights… the stage has lots of ambient light – wondering if that will negate the black light?

While using a black light you want to make sure you use neon style colors that are specially for black light. It doesn’t have to completely dark, just depends on how far away the black light is Always from the object

It depends on the effect you’re after. If you want a scene where you can only see fluorescent or white costumes glowing under black light, then ambient light is going to wreck the effect. If you want costumes to just glow slightly while being able to see other things on stage, then you might well be OK.
